Knitted Knockers
Ewe Knit It is a drop off point for Knitted Knockers (https://www.knittedknockers.org)
Knitted Knockers are special handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. Traditional breast prosthetics are usually expensive, heavy, sweaty and uncomfortable. They typically require special bras or camisoles with pockets and can’t be worn for weeks after surgery. Knitted Knockers on the other hand are soft, comfortable, beautiful and when placed in a regular bra they take the shape and feel of a real breast. Our special volunteer knitters provide these FREE to those requesting them.
It’s our dream to share the gift of these Knitted Knockers simple solutions with breast cancer survivors and their supporters everywhere.
Of course, since they’re light as air… not much “support” is needed (Cue: Drummer Rim Shot & Laugh Track) Sorry, we couldn’t resist.
We obviously like to focus, literally, on the “lighter” side of this issue because there’s already enough emotions and trauma for those of us who have experienced this ourselves, or know a loved one who has. With over 50,000 mastectomies in the United States alone each year… this could help brighten and improve the lives of so many women.
This idea of organizing and offering these Knitted Knockers as a free gift to breast cancer survivors won a nationwide contest that included a trip to visit the Susan G. Komen headquarters as their guest. This concluded with the honor of our founder, Barbara Demorest, being 1 of only 4 other people, (other than Susan G. Komen herself), to be permanently displayed on the Susan G. Komen Headquarters Promise Wall.
Our goal is to multiply the inspiration of GIFTING these to other breast cancer survivors in our community, our country, and around the world.
Thank you so much for helping share this dream of helping others with your fans and viewers.
With Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, this is an amazing opportunity to help spread the message about this great alternative. We know you’ll be looking for ways to help bring awareness to breast cancer which affects 1 out of every 8 women in their lifetime. Because of that we’ve made all the video and resources easily available for you here.
We love to present the story of knitted knockers at every opportunity to help spread the word about the gift of knitted knockers to women who have had a mastectomy made by caring volunteers. Some of the points we like to include in interviews are:
There are 3 ways that people can help:
If you can knit or crochet, make knitted knockers. We are sending out over 8,000 a month free to women all over the world and can only do it because of the wonderful volunteers willing to make them. Share with your friends on social media. Like and share us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (@knitted_knocker), etc. This helps us to reach out to the hundreds of thousands of women living in the US right now that have not been reconstructed after mastectomy. Donate. We are 100% volunteer run and survive by donations. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit. Donations can be mailed to Knitted Knockers Support Foundation, 1780 Iowa St., Bellingham, WA 98229 or made via PayPal on our website at knittedknockers.org.
We always make a point of emphasizing that we are knittedknockers.ORG out of Washington state as it can be confusing with so many groups using the name. Another great group is knittedknockersusa.com out of Arizona but we are knittedknockers.org.
We usually share some comments that have come in from grateful recipients but also share how we benefit by making them and knowing we are making a difference in women’s lives. We can give you some cool comments if you like. Or you can read some unsolicited testimonies at knittedknockers.org.

We love to present the story of knitted knockers at every opportunity to help spread the word about the gift of knitted knockers to women who have had a mastectomy made by caring volunteers. Some of the points we like to include in interviews are:
- Our mission is connecting volunteer knitters (and crocheters) with breast cancer survivors to provide free knitted knockers.
- We do this by inspiring and equipping volunteers to make them. Knittedknockers.org has free patterns and videos on how to make great knitted knockers. The patterns have been downloaded over 1 million times.
- We did not invent knitted knockers but rather approached the young woman in Maine who had named them after making some for herself to see if I could use the name and share them freely with others. She was thrilled as she was no longer able to.
- We have over 3,500 individuals and groups registered with us in 50 states and 30 countries.
